António e Cleópatra (Antoine et Cléôpatre)
Antony and Cleopatra, two inseparable names to tell us about an illustrious and fascinating love story that inspired Plutarch, director Mankiewicz and, of course, Shakespeare. In his turn, Tiago Rodrigues offers a show in memory of this historic tragedy.
He returns to the Théâtre de la Bastille with one of his signature plays. Taking the legend and its legacy very freely, he stages a duo of choreographers. Sofia Dias and Vítor Roriz play and dance Antony and Cleopatra, embodying the love of politics and inventing a politics of love.
Through their bodies and words, the duo comes to life and their gentle complicity is revealed. The story unfolds and poetry takes hold: attraction, betrayal, dishonor, war, and soon death. And on the walls, the whole desert and sky of Egypt open up before our eyes, through mobile ochre and blue colors, in unstable equilibrium just like their consuming passion, on the edge of intimacy and politics, which will lead them to their downfall.
