Hécube, pas Hécube
Hécube, pas Hécube is a tragedy born between the lines of a tragedy, written right into the skin of the Comédie-Française performers. Tiago Rodrigues directs Nadia's life, which is organized between the theater stage and the courtroom floor. Nadia rehearses Hecuba (Euripides' play) while fighting for justice for her autistic son, mistreated by the institution that took him into care. As the opening night of the show and the verdict of the trial approach, the world around her begins to change. Nadia is not Hecuba, but her life is struck full force by the legend of the former queen of Troy, now a slave revolting against her fate, who, when confronted by Agamemnon, had to speak on behalf of her son.
Hécube, pas Hécube by Tiago Rodrigues, translation Thomas Resendes, is published by Les Solitaires intempestifs in July 2024. With excerpts from Hecube by Euripides, translation Marie Delcourt-Curvers, published by Editions Gallimard.
