Au nom du ciel
On May 30, 2020, Iyad Al-Hallaq, a 32-year-old autistic Palestinian, was shot several times by an Israeli border guard in Jerusalem's Old City, as he and his teacher walked to a specialized center where he worked. Once again, this holy land, this fertile land, this land that has become cursed, is plunged into horror and turmoil.
Yet, above the sound of bullets flying, cries of terror, heart-rending sorrow, we can hear birds singing in the Jerusalem sky, watching, bewildered, the endless conflict between Palestinians and Israelis. It is then far from the earth, in the immaculate sky of man's violence, that three birds - played by suspended actors, in a theatrical tableau full of grace - will investigate this homicide and try to better understand this tragedy by exploring the complexity of events that are rooted in this lost paradise.
With In the Name of Heaven, Israeli director Yuval Rozman, exiled in France, tells us a contemporary fable, which uses the symbolism of birds to sketch out new paths in search of a beauty buried beneath the war.
