What is theatre.info?

An inter-professional participatory platform for the performing arts opened to the general public

- For promoting theatrical texts to book professionals and the general public.

- For referencing shows being presented both nationally and internationally.

- A version in English.

- A participatory platform that allows everyone to reference texts and shows in their national and international dimensions.

- A platform that allows partners to post links to bookings and documentary resources.

- Open data enabling partners to use the information collected via an API for their own sites.

- A diary and favourites to keep everyone up to date with what's happening on the national and international scene.

A news-only site

theatre.info will only present texts and shows currently on the bill. It is not intended to be a repository of news about theatre, nor a documentary resource site. Similarly, it is not intended to duplicate the sites of publishers presenting all their catalogues. (Of course, partners using the API will be able to keep the archives of show dates in their databases if they wish to.)

Why theatre.info?

For the last 15 years, theatre-contemporain.net has acted as an information gateway, but at the beginning of 2024, as part of the merger with the Artcena association (Centre national des arts du cirque, de la rue et du théâtre), the theatre-contemporain.net site (which will no longer be online in autumn 2024) no longer offers information on texts published on stage with the possibility of participative contributions.
As a result, the pages of publishers and partners using the API are no longer up to date.

The decision by the Ministry of Culture (DGCA) not to retain these functions when theatre-contemporain.net merged with Artcena on 1 January 2024 has left specialist publishers at a loss when faced with this new lack of information.

Who are we?

An initiative by a group of specialist publishers

  • Specialised theatre publishers are unique in that they depend heavily on the presence of texts on stage for their commercial dynamism.
  • Collecting and putting online information about theatrical creations requires constant monitoring and appropriate tools.

Faced with the vital need to know, sort and make public information about performances in order to ensure better distribution of theatre texts, a group of specialist publishers has submitted an application to the CNL to set up this site. It is being developed by éditions Théâtrales (and their Théâdiff distribution activities) and Les Solitaires Intempestifs, the project's sponsor, with development support from the CNL (Centre national du livre).
