Entre les lignes (Entrelinhas)
Tiago Rodrigues has already written for Tónan Quito several times. This time he was to write a text for the actor to perform alone on stage, but for mysterious reasons he missed all the deadlines. A series of incidents gave rise to Entre les lignes. Somewhere between reality and fiction, the play portrays the long, enigmatic relationship between the author-director and his favourite actor. In keeping with its labyrinthine narrative, it interweaves the text of Sophocles' Œdipus the King with the letters a prisoner writes to his mother between the lines of an old edition of the Greek tragedy, found in his prison library. And yet, the play always returns to the present: the present of the theater, in which the actor explains to the audience why the promised performance won't take place after all. In a performance that earned him his nomination for Time Out magazine's 2013 Best Actor of the Year award, Tónan Quito weaves an intimate relationship with the audience, marked by that privileged time, before a show begins, when the theater becomes a place of expectation. For Entre les lignes is also about that: what we expect from theater on both sides of the stage. And that unpredictable nature intrinsic to theater, where the possibility of fire not catching is inevitable.
