Catarina et la beauté de tuer des fascistes
Now it's young Catarina's turn to kill her first fascist, kidnapped for the occasion. But she refuses to do it...
The Portuguese playwright and director describes the family conflict and confusion that erupt and unleash questions. What is a fascist? By setting the action in the near future, Tiago Rodrigues detaches himself from reality, the better to observe and anticipate it. He creates an allegory to question the laws and morals of our time and to flush out future fascist tendencies in our societies. And this dystopian poem becomes a fable when the fascist awaiting his fate talks at night with the ghost of another Catarina, Catarina Eufémia, a farm worker killed during the dictatorship of António de Oliveira Salazar in 1954.
Tiago Rodrigues writes his texts for his performers as they rehearse, summoning up collective memories, rituals and political or artistic issues. Together, they explore how theatre can challenge reality, standing on the uncertain threshold between life and the artifice of art.
