Borda
With Borda, a piece embodied by nine performers on the same vibratory length, Lia Rodrigues embroiders a stunning choreographic fresco, in continuous mutation, whose formidable power of imagination transcends all boundaries.
On stage, using costumes and props from previous Lia Rodrigues pieces, nine performers - who constitute a thrilling collective, woven of salient singularities in close connection - generate a succession of tableaux. Infinitely alive and fluid, from one metamorphosis to the next, the ensemble vividly unfolds in an unlimited space "where edges move, float and dance".
In Portuguese, the common noun "borda" can be translated as "border", "edge" or "limit", while the verb "bordar" means "to embroider" literally and "to imagine" figuratively. From this stimulating polysemy, the Brazilian choreographer has woven the threads of her new creation. Forming a trilogy with her two previous works,Furia (2018) and Encantado (2021), both presented at CENTQUATRE-PARIS, marks 35 years of existence for her company, based in the favela of Maré in Rio de Janeiro.
