Une pédagogie du conflit
Between the violence of a fight and the grace of a tango, the balance of power between these bodies probes the complexity of the world. This jiu-jitsu-inspired choreographic duet brings together two acrobats for a last stand.
Two acrobatic dancers stand arched against each other. Are they fighting? Or are they just looking for support? They'll lunge, lift, fall, throwing their last bit of strength into a fight that resembles an embrace, an attempt at dialogue in clumsy, inappropriate gestures. Mathieu Desseigne, who we've seen in Alain Platel's shows, and Lucien Reynès combine their circus skills with the rough-and-tumble refinement of a combat sport to bring disagreement and confrontation into play. Summoning the writings of Métie Navajo and Guillaume Cayet, they attempt to shed light on the paradox of conflictuality, between aggression and the need for the other.
