Le Regole del saper viver nella societa moderna

The Lady, the protagonist of this fierce and amusing rescue manual, gives herself over to the public to teach about the rigid ceremonies that guarantee order and elegance on all the important occasions that punctuate life.

She dispenses her cynical advice with assurance and precision, taking care to dismiss the sentiments that would inevitably jeopardize the fragile balance in which life must flow to preserve the illusory securities of a hypocritical and superficial society.

In this operation, seemingly in defense of convention, the Lady reveals to us the true nature of these ceremonies, the absurdity of these cold, rigid customs that exclude those who cannot or will not belong to the chorus. She points the way to the contradictions that find their first development within the family itself.

"We enter Lagarce's texts riding a wave, carried away by the flow of words, by the scansion of rhythm, swimming between rhymes and assonances in a language whose repetitiveness is not mechanical, but on the contrary comforting and familiar. It's as if the author were translating an everyday language, an age of life or the music of a "character" into something else, poetry, novel, list, infinite murmur, song.

No tears in this text so abstract, where Death takes away everything, bouquets, lace, newborns, hats, gifts, and where Life recycles, as trousseau, memory or thought, into new lives.
