Yo no soy bonita
The solo piece Yo no soy bonita (I'm not pretty), which also takes the form of performance or action, is a critique of patriarchal society and the roles imposed on women from birth. Through autobiographical narratives, passages of denunciation performed almost rap-like, and ritual actions with objects and on her body, Liddell constructs a work as cruel as it is poetic, "an act of disobedience" to "end the tyranny of shame, using beauty". In a gothic aesthetic that includes a living white horse, this performer executes brief, intense acts through which she attempts to exorcise pain and poetically elaborate social violence. This manifesto against gender-based violence passes through different registers: moments of pure presence where actions take place in real time that are then transformed into powerful symbolic images, as well as moments where the narrative continues through video images that transport us into a fabulous time. Yo no soy bonita is, in essence, a work in which Liddell offers her body as material and agent to question and demystify the roles women must play in a violent society.
