Do you know Me, Christiane F., 13-year-old drug addict, prostitute...? This now cult book, published in 1979 in Germany, tells the true story of Christiane Felscherinow, plunged at age 13 into the hell of drugs and prostitution. As a teenager, Myrthe Vermeulen identified with Christiane Felscherinow, projecting her rage for life and fear of death onto her.
The brutality of reality faced by young Berliners, children of the war and the Wall, resonates with that of her own generation, confronted with the climate crisis and identitarian withdrawal. While Christiane F. spends her adolescence in the magnetic shadow of David Bowie, Myrthe Vermeulen's is invaded by Christiane's ghost.
To tell this story, the young actress from the Belle Troupe des Amandiers (class of 2021-24) invents a dizzying play of mirrors, where identities cross, duplicate and overlap. There's Myrthe, the author. Eva, her fictional double, convinced she is the reincarnation of Christiane F. Christiane, inseparable from Babsi, her friend who died of an overdose. And to add to the turmoil, Myrthe entrusts her role to Élise de Gaudemaris, her alter ego and partner in La Belle Troupe, who plays Eva on stage. In this way, the "I" constantly becomes another.
