Taire
Tamara Al Saadi writes and directs a variation on the figure of Antigone, the literary icon of resistance that has spanned the centuries and given rise to numerous adaptations.
The daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, the young Antigone defies King Creon's laws forbidding the burial of the body of her brother Polynices, designated an enemy of the city. Antigone defies injustice, disobeys her king and buries her brother. She dies in the process. With Taire, Tamara Al Saadi questions the visions of an adolescence overwhelmed by the world around it, no longer able to think about its future. At the crossroads of social science research and theater, the author and director's work was nurtured by meetings and workshops with young people in hospitals and care facilities. At a time of environmental, geopolitical and social issues, and growing anxiety among teenagers, how do they perceive this female figure who stands up to paternal and political authority? How does this myth resonate as the contemporary world plunges its youngest members into a state of stupefaction? How do they view their own powerlessness, their need to cry out an impossible revolt?
