Ping Pang Qiu
"At first, I just wanted to tell a love story." To do this, Angélica Liddell sits down at a ping-pong table, accompanied by Lola Jiménez, Fabián Augusto Gómez Bohórquez and Sindo Puche, who already accompanied her in her previous creation: "Maudit soit l'homme qui se confie en l'homme": a literacy project. Ping-pong, in which Chinese players excel, is a sport subject to strict rules, and those who play it must observe rigorous discipline. Discipline is also needed to learn the Chinese language, as Angélica Liddell experienced, and today she places it at the heart of her play: "A colossal task to endure despair" This show is about love, but a contradictory kind of love: Orpheus' love for Eurydice, to whom, for love, he gave death a second time; Angélica Liddell's love for China, governed by a regime that contradicts any quest for beauty and freedom. "That's why I talk about my love of China, because the more you love China, the more you feel sadness, because China doesn't exist, China is the destruction of China." In China, Angélica Liddell feels so foreign, so alone, that she finds a certain peace, a paradoxical freedom. For Ping Pang Qiu is also the fruit of another apprenticeship: that of solitude.
