Les Règles du savoir-vivre dans la société moderne

Add to my favorites

Les Règles du savoir-vivre dans la société moderne features a lady alone in front of an audience. Drawing on the precepts of a manual of good manners, she talks about life as a long series of things to be sorted out, where every problem finds its solution as long as we respect customs and etiquette.

Beyond the amused wink at codes from another era, Lagarce's play confronts us with the incessant flow of rules and conditioning that enable humans to escape uncertainty, doubt and the fear of living fully according to their innermost nature - that agonizingly untamed beast. Paradoxically, at the center of all this society that she intends to manage, the speaker appears as a fundamentally lonely being, cut off from real life.
