Les Forteresses

Add to my favorites

Constructed from the stories of 3 sisters, this family saga evokes half a century of History told at the crossroads of the intimate and the political.

Avignon, July 2018. Gurshad Shaheman walks behind his mother and 2 aunts. He observes the complicity that unites them even though they haven't seen each other in over 10 years. Since the Ayatollahs' revolution, 3 countries and 2 continents have separated them. Today, they share the stage with actresses who recount their lives: childhood, studies, marriages, births, divorces, against a backdrop of revolution, war, separation and exile. With its Persian guinguette feel, the stage is the receptacle of an incandescent joy that blends words with music (Lucien Gaudion), the voice of the young director interpreting Azeri songs (a language banned by the Islamic authorities) with the bodies of the 3 sisters who rediscover the pleasure of forgotten gestures... And suddenly, the fortress of tears collapses to make way for a long song of love. That of women determined not to let fate break them.
