Le Passé

Ajouter à mes favoris

From the fate of Ekaterina Ivanovna, who finds refuge in debauchery after surviving her husband's assassination attempt, Le Passé explores the chasms and abysses of a lost world: the little-known work of Leonid Andreyev, a Russian author unjustly relegated to oblivion after the 1917 revolution. It was translator André Markowicz who suggested this reading to Julien Gosselin, when the latter confided in him his desire to create a show that would put on the same level "the disappearance of theater and the future disappearance of humanity". To consider the past, from our present, with the same distant and uncertain gaze as that cast on the future: such would be the vertigo produced by Le Passé, through a staging in which contemporary forms are combined with the nostalgia of a theatricality of yesteryear.
