SCÈNES D'INTERIEUR

A filmic performance, Mélanie Leray's new creation, born of a re-reading of Ibsen's A Doll's House, tells the story of the transmission of intergenerational violence, captured up close and kept at a distance by the constant use of the camera.

At the heart of the story, Chloé, an actress about to play Nora in A Doll's House. She is with her husband, whom she is accompanying to a company seminar. The scene is a beautiful seaside hotel. Their 6-year-old son is asleep in the room. With the help of alcohol, tensions emerge, tempers flare and dirty memories come flooding back. One story leads to another, that of Chloé's mother who, like an Ibsen heroine, one day found the courage to leave with her children to escape her husband's violence. This episode from the past, filmed in advance, is projected onto the stage, alternating with the first, performed and filmed live. This language, on the edge of theater and cinema, has become Mélanie Leray's signature, and finds its full relevance with this subject.
