Le cercle de craie caucasien

Add to my favorites

A powerful, spellbinding play, like a tale from the depths of the ages to illuminate our present.

There are stories that, amid the din of the world, rekindle something profoundly human. The Caucasian Chalk Circle recounts the journey of a young woman, Groucha, who rescues a child abandoned by fleeing nobility in the chaos of war. She raises him with courage and tenderness, but years later, the biological mother reappears. To whom does the child belong? Emmanuel Demarcy-Mota decided to stage this work with the Troupe du Théâtre de la Ville, giving it a freedom of tone and a profoundly contemporary irony and poetry. A theater that's generous, committed and funny all at once. In a world marked by exile, injustice and fractures, Le Cercle de craie caucasien makes a necessary voice heard: that of tenderness as a force of resistance, of kindness as a political act. A play that speaks to us of what we choose to protect. And what we want to pass on!
