La Cerisaie
For the first time, Isabelle Adjani and Jacques Weber are reunited on stage in one of the masterpieces of the repertoire: Anton Chekhov’s *The Cherry Orchard*.
Directed by Eric Ruf, who served as General Director of the Comédie Française for eleven years, this is his first production since the critical and popular success of *Le Soulier de satin* in 2024. Supported by his usual creative team, including Christian Lacroix on costumes, he has assembled a cast who share his love of classical texts.
As the Russian Empire is about to collapse, Chekhov’s final work recounts the end of a world – that of a family of landowners forced to sell their estate, and, with it, the echoes of the lives that once filled it. As the trees are destined to be felled, everyone tries to hold on to what is already slipping away: childhood, love, illusions, memory.
In this twilight ballad, where laughter mingles with tears, Lyubov Andreyevna, an aristocrat who has returned from France in ruin (played by Isabelle Adjani), is reunited with her brother Gaev (played by Jacques Weber), a man of infinite tenderness, as oblivious as she is to the gravity of their situation.
