Une cerisaie

Add to my favorites

The Cherry Orchard is timeless. Yet it is constantly changing... By focusing the narrative on the memory of the place and that of the theater, Aurélie Van Den Daele opens up new perspectives on Chekhov’s classic. Where do all the memories go when a place dies? What if a new cherry orchard were built to house these memories?

This is the story of a house. A house that has been visited and revisited in countless theaters around the world for over a century. For this production, director Aurélie Van Den Daele has chosen to throw open its doors and windows wide to let in a breath of fresh air. Taking on Chekhov’s timeless work, she infuses it with contemporary themes: “How can we bring to life a place that is on the verge of disappearing, even as we feel the ground shifting beneath our feet? That everything might vanish?” From a magic trick performed by the housekeeper Charlotte to a fast-paced party, she offers a revitalizing interpretation of The Cherry Orchard, transforming the familiar into an intense experience.
