Israel & Mohamed

Add to my favorites

Making their bodies living archives, Mohamed El Khatib and Israel Galván work together to create a "documentary dance" that blends the intimate and the political in the shadow of father figures.

The former makes documentary-inspired theater, films and installations. The latter is a virtuoso and iconoclastic flamenco dancer. By placing their first names side by side, Mohamed El Khatib and Israel Galván attempt to bring together their worlds and artistic practices as much as their personal journeys, through a dialogue on either side of the Mediterranean where differences prove as fertile as affinities. Together, under the astonished gaze of their fathers, they seek a common language based on the body, its wounds and scars. Taking as their starting point their meeting, the sharing of their intimate, family and professional histories, they explore in duet what would be a living archive and a documentary dance.
