In the Name of Heaven is a contemporary fable, a black comedy about ornithology in the Holy Land.
Through the story of several bird species, the play explores the tensions and conflicts that resonate in the skies over the West Bank, between East and West Jerusalem. The play is set in Jerusalem's Old City, near the Al-Aqsa Mosque and Wailing Wall, above a garbage garbage can. It features three birds: a Bulbul, a Drara and a Black Swift. Together, they investigate the murder of Iyad Al-Hallaq, a 32-year-old autistic Palestinian killed by Israeli police in 2020. From the sky, these birds attempt to understand the circumstances of this tragedy, exploring the complexity of this event from an aerial and symbolic angle.
