We look, we imagine what our life will be like, we think we see it before us, and little by little, living it, we slowly look back on ourselves, we observe the road we've traveled, the slow and certain distance that led us to where we are today, from the distant country from which we left.
It's the story of failure, the story of what we wanted to be and weren't, the story of what we saw slipping away from us. And pain, yes. Pain, but also, perhaps, the serenity of appeasement, a peaceful look at oneself.
