Silent Disco
At the origin of Gurshad Shaheman's projects, there is always reality as a subjective reading of the world. He draws his inspiration from intimate narratives, from lived experience, both his own and that of others.
Silent Disco questions the construction of identity and belonging to the world. On stage, nine young men and women aged between 20 and 27 wear headphones and dance to their own music. Occasionally, one of them removes his or her headphones, steps out of his or her bubble and revisits snippets of his or her own life for himself or herself, aloud. It soon becomes clear what these young people have in common: they have all experienced a break with their families. Each of them is encouraged to put his or her experiences into perspective, through writing and acting. Little by little, their voices are freed, and their music - a place of refuge in their daily lives - is shared with others. Individual stories follow one another, intertwining and resonating together to ultimately paint, in small strokes, an allegorical portrait of a certain youth.
