Psychodrame
Using theatre as a form of therapy dates back to Aristotle and Greek tragedy, but it was Jacob Levy Moreno who, in the 1930s, created therapeutic improvisational theatre. Acting as a form of healing. Pretending. Reliving and revisiting scenes of repression, taboo and trauma is a space of investigation for Lisa Guez, who, drawing on her theatrical experience in psychiatric centres, explores its full cathartic power. The six formidable actresses of Psychodrama, who take turns as patients and carers, do not perform documentary theatre but invent a fiction. In this psychiatric centre populated solely by women, they bring to light the ghosts and monsters that haunt their psyche and stifle their voices. By bringing forth life and disorder, they restore meaning where there was none.
