Méduse et Merveille
Once upon a time, in a gray land populated by anxious people, there were two children locked away in opposing towers. On one side was Merveille, a naive boy lulled by his father’s gentle tales, who would do anything to protect him from the harsh reality. On the other side was Méduse, a girl hardened by her mother’s lessons, who never stopped preparing her to face a world of illusions and villains. When an unexpected event forces them out into the world together, each discovers, through a series of encounters, that life is very different from what their parents have told them… Following Loin dans la mer, a modern and delightful adaptation of The Little Mermaid, Lisa Guez returns to the Théâtre de la Ville with a new play about upbringing. Written in the style of a coming-of-age tale, Méduse et Merveille is aimed at young children as well as adults, exploring the themes of freedom and the space given to children who, in order to grow up properly, must free themselves from their parents’ anxieties.
