Minetti
A New Year’s Eve to keep from fading into oblivion. In the midst of a snowstorm, in a hotel in Ostend, an aging actor waits for a theater director to restage King Lear, the role of his life. Around him, passing travelers, masked revelers, idle employees, and nocturnal loners form a tapestry of humanity that is both funny and melancholic… The play is brought to life by Josse de Pauw, a leading figure on European stages who elevates Thomas Bernhard’s caustic language to new heights of intensity. Three young performers surround the actor, while actress-singer Élise Caron and pianist Jeanne Bleuse envelop his reveries in the music of Schubert, Chopin, and Ravel. A fable that is both funny and cruel, Minetti takes us on a journey through time and memory, haunted by the fear of disappearing.
