M’aime pas mort

This text was awarded the ARTCENA Creation Grant in November 2020.

In the text M’aime pas mort, Aurore Jacob breaks away from the myth of Antigone and its established conventions to set it within a reality shaped by our contemporary issues. A story is invented, a voice is heard, bearing witness, making accusations, retracing all the events that contributed to shattering the tranquillity of a small town and propelling it into the eye of a media storm.

These two sisters, entangled in a web of family and societal history, navigate their daily lives.

Gone has returned to her home village. Having left years ago for the city to pursue her life as an artist, she comes back to support her younger sister, Is, who is struggling to cope following a family tragedy. A news story involving the two sisters, Is and Gone, becomes an uncontrollable media circus
, turning their story into a spectacle, fuelling tensions and distorting the truth. Whilst Is leads a quiet life juggling revision for her A-levels, her job at the bakery and her need to forget, Gone takes matters into her own hands to set the record straight.
