LORENZACCIO

Add to my favorites

Florence, 1537, Lorenzo de Medici wants to put an end to the tyranny of Duke Alexander. He infiltrates his inner circle, wins his trust, until he commits regicide. This 1834 play questions political action in the face of despotism: from the impossible uprising of repressed peoples, the inaction of the powerful incapable of thinking about the common good, to questioning the moral sense of individual action.

With Lorenzaccio, David Bobée returns to a text from the great repertoire, revealing all its vitality through the acuity of its dramaturgy and the transdisciplinarity of its aesthetics. By linking Alfred de Musset's masterpiece to its original version, written by George Sand, he resonates the tensions between romanticism and political lucidity, between lyricism and civic responsibility.

On stage, a monumental set of broken columns, ready to collapse, evokes the ruins of a regime at the end of its rope, too fragile to still bear the weight of the ideals it claims to defend.

In the role of Lorenzo, David Bobée has chosen Félix Back, a young talent from the École du Nord. Around him, a powerful cast gives flesh to this collective drama.
