Le Bain

Add to my favorites

"I help him gently into the bathtub, his old man's body, destroyed, I barely carry him and very slowly let him slide down so he can finally sit up. This simple maneuver becomes a real physical ordeal, an immense adventure. We laugh, we howl with laughter."
In Jean-Luc Lagarce's "Le Bain", a man recounts his last reunion with his AIDS-sick, near-death lover. Over the course of a weekend, they meet again, culminating in a bath they take together, which soothes them and serves as a farewell.

A scenic device where the listener/spectator plunges into this intimate text all around the bathtub, the central element of the scenography where the story takes place; the water here becomes the receptacle for the narrator's states of mind: calm, quivering, agitated, tormented, misty.
