Goodbye Lindita
Around an inanimate body, a family gathers to silently commemorate the death of a loved one. In the depths of this mourning-affected intimacy, mysterious figures resurface: the domestic space then becomes the site of a strange liturgy, a ceremony where everyday gestures are suddenly imbued with sacredness. As a painter, Banushi brings to the stage a string of visions, influenced as much by the imagery of ancient Balkan rituals as by Christian iconography. A meditation on death as much as on life, Goodbye Lindita unfolds a theater of images, where contemplation takes the place of contemplation.
A rising figure in European theater, Mario Banushi invents a wordless scenic language that holds together by the sheer force of his visions. Nourished by memories of his childhood, shared between Albania and Greece, Goodbye Lindita and Mami are born of personal experiences, gradually transfigured into an allegorical theater, and both pay tribute to the tutelary figures who have accompanied the director.
