Erreur de construction
This text, Erreur de construction, is one of Jean-Luc Lagarce's earliest; it's made up of a completely different style of writing from the one we're usually familiar with. It's more reminiscent of Ionesco, and even more specifically of la Cantatrice Chauve. It's absurd, zany, funny and sharp writing. In the course of the play, he asks us about the possibility, or otherwise, of a change in society. And if so, which path should we take? The relationship with the audience is very present and well written, as are the possible accidents, giving this play a lively, spirited character. We have to try to follow this text, juggling moments where the actors play actors and moments where the actors play actors who are themselves playing figures. The play also refers throughout to a revolution that is treated as a farce. Ultimately, it will lead to the installation of a dictator - "President for Life of the Fatherland in Danger".
What interests me in this play is trying to stage a text designed to trap the audience in the expected and unexpected in theater; while not putting them in a situation of boredom or indifference. That's what we'll be striving to achieve throughout the creation and performances.
