Chroniques maritales [Récital Lagarce]

This collection of 12 texts invites readers to (re)discover the works of Jean-Luc Lagarce, an author who is now universally recognized, though some of his texts remain in the shadows. 

On the occasion of the tributes being paid in 2025—marking the thirtieth anniversary of the author’s passing—and with the collaboration of Livres dans la Boucle and the Nouveau Théâtre Besançon, that I proposed to Mireille Herbstmeyer and Hervé Pierre this reading-performance of excerpts from his work, portraying a couple navigating a lifetime of theater while facing the vicissitudes of performance.

Mireille was 16 when she began working with Jean-Luc after they met at the Besançon Conservatory, and she went on to perform in 24 of his productions.  Hervé met the author in his native Haut-Doubs during an internship the year he turned twenty. Although they didn’t reunite until 1991, he was regularly offered roles. They traveled throughout France and the world, bringing Jean-Luc Lagarce’s words to life in several hundred performances.
