Ce que la vie fait à la politique

For this second meeting in the Rencontres pour lire cycle, Mohamed El Khatib offers an evening of readings with Nathalie Baye, Julie Depardieu and Eric Elmosnino, who, throughout their careers, have faced the questions present in Pierre Bourdieu. L'Insoumission en héritage.*

"I've always felt a kind of incomprehension when, in my life after my childhood, friends with whom I'd dine out would tell me they had "no more money" while we were at a restaurant and they were about to pay for dinner. Ten years earlier, when I heard my mother say "no more money", it meant that there was nothing left in her little leather purse, and that we'd have to go and knock on the door of one of my aunts who lived a few houses down to get a packet of pasta and some grated cheese. By my class background, by my origins, my definitions of "no more money", of nothing, of emptiness, of nothingness, differed radically, and politics played a decisive role in the place of emptiness."
