Babïl

Add to my favorites

What better place than the theater to think about speech - and therefore listening? Funny and for all audiences, BABÏL tackles the question of language from a child's perspective.

Tohu and Bohu come to tell us the story of a people who decide to build a tower but struggle to get there. Like the characters in the story they've invented, the two friends find it hard to get along: Tohu is very comfortable with words and tends to monopolize speech, while Bohu is shy and dreads public speaking. But they'll have to get along if they want to be and do together...
Inspired by the myth of the Tower of Babel, Sarah Carré's play joyfully questions the power of speech. With only a few maps as their backdrop, the two actors play with words and gestures, singing, dancing and miming to create a mischievous, rhythmic address to the play's real third character: the audience.
