A man needs to cross Downtown Beirut: he wants to have a coffee, buy something in a store, take a photo, see a film or a play at the theater. Every year, he returns to Beirut and tries to accomplish these simple, ordinary tasks. Each year, he will be confronted with a city in flux: new obstacles, different routes, a different geography, the passage of time. Although the objectives of his visit remain the same, he will experience a different story every year, from 1920, when Lebanon was declared an independent state, to 2007.
