Fille
From the outset, the Narrative announces that a pregnant woman has been disemboweled. Behind this barbaric act is Fille, who is only repeating what her father taught her, because he's the one who knows.
On the farm where Fille grows up with the harvest, there's Papa, who loves her. Beyond the farm, there's the world of the "good for nothing". Once incarcerated, Fille keeps silent in the face of the police. She also remains silent to the woman doctor who insists on coming to see her, and who will gradually help her to unravel the threads of her story. In this way, Fille may finally be able to understand and speak.
Matt Hartley's text is a harsh, poetic fable about innocence and guilt. Blending narrative and dialogue, its strength also lies in the language: naked, raw and sensitive.
