In this play, we follow five teenagers as they grapple with their school, discovering their emotional turmoil, their unusual, sometimes risky behaviors, until the moment these five teens are forced to get involved in school life and join a theater workshop that has been neglected for several years, in order to put on a show during the end-of-year open house.
These five teenagers, trapped in this workshop, will struggle joyfully and furiously to escape the trap that has been set for them... The question isn’t so much whether they’ll manage to put on a show in the end, but rather whether, for them, this encounter with theater will truly take root... Will theater have an impact on their lives?
Maya’s Diary
In this short play written for two actresses, we follow the relationship between two 13-year-old friends as they enter 8th grade. We hear them discuss the issues typical of that age; we hear them talk about topics commonly discussed in middle school: academic pressure, bullying, the weight of others’ judgments, hypersensitivity, withdrawal, friendship, and social relationships... And during a conversation about a presentation assigned in French class, we even hear them discuss Chateaubriand and *Mémoires d’outre-tombe*, a work that, at first glance, seems impossible for their age group to tackle...
