Traviata, vous méritez un avenir meilleur
Between theater and opera, this adaptation of Verdi's La Traviata is intimate and inventive, far removed from operatic conventions, with the talented Judith Chemla in the title role. An atypical piece hailed with triumph at its premiere in 2016.
It's to an offbeat version of Verdi's work (but not a betrayal!) that we invite you this evening. Director Benjamin Lazar, along with Florent Hubert and Judith Chemla, have imagined a "musical and fantastic feast". La Traviata, the so-called "rogue woman" who is an essential operatic heroine, was inspired by Marie Duplessis, Countess of Perregaux and courtesan with a tragic destiny, whom Alexandre Dumas fils, one of her lovers, brought to life in the guise of Marguerite Gautier in La Dame aux camélias. Shortly afterwards, Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi immortalized her as Violetta Valéry in La Traviata. Behind the daring musical irreverence intended by the three artists lies a staging full of intelligence, delicacy and humor. Judith Chemla is funny, unsettling and incandescent.
