Matthias Langhoff brings Marcial Di Fonzo Bo and Frédérique Loliée together on stage, in a set designed by Catherine Rankl, to turn the triptych by the great German playwright Heiner Müller into a powerful work of art that remains as topical as ever.

A visionary poet, Heiner Müller is a major figure in twentieth-century theater and thought. The original staging of this triptych by his long-time companion Matthias Langhoff reveals all its force, acuity and burning topicality.

For three decades, the founding myth of Medea never ceased to occupy Heiner Müller's mind, but it wasn't until 1983 that he decided to bring together all his notes and fragments to compose Rivage à l'abandon, Médée-matériau and Paysage avec Argonautes. Matthias Langhoff was already at his side when the triptych was premiered at the Schauspielhaus Bochum in Germany. So, in 2022, he decided to stage the show again, considering that the world's historical situation had worsened, and that Müller's play, now revived in French, posed crucial questions whose importance has unfortunately not waned. On this shore littered with the debris of history, in an increasingly devastated global landscape, the joyous nihilism of our societies comes to the fore, while capitalism and Marxism continue to fight each other, East and West to tear each other apart, men and women to maintain a dialogue of the deaf.
