Poings
Poings is a love story divided into five scenes, from the meeting to the break-up, told from the point of view of a woman trying to make sense of what she has been through.
Poings is the story of a love encounter that turns into a nightmare. It's a story of domination and power struggles. It's about HIM's hold over YOU. It's the struggle of YOU and ME, this duo of broken women seeking to understand. It's the journey through a painful human ordeal, from chaos to resilience. It's a message of hope and the cry for life of a woman who runs away to rebuild herself.
The question of violence appealed to us. First of all, the insidious violence of toxic relationships, the kind that twists and breaks from within, hence the doubling of the female character into two entities moreover. But also that of sexual violence, as Fists also tackles the issue of marital rape, a subject that is all too often hushed up.
How do we deal with this kind of violence in the theater? How to represent it? How do we show it? How do we make them understood?
Pauline Peyrade's singular writing style also fueled our desire to defend this play. Indeed, some scenes are written like scores, calling for a real musical setting of the text and voices, which for us was essential. We base our work on the relationship between music and acting on stage and live.
