One Song

Histoire(s) du théâtre IV

Facing us, a group of performers are alternately booed and applauded. Opposite them, a mini-audience changes its mind according to the interpretations, a cheerleader maintains her encouragement and a sports commentator makes his analysis. Like a micro-society, the characters in One Song display their desires and frustrations, repeating a ritual of farewells and beginnings. Following in the footsteps of Milo Rau, Faustin Linyekula and Angélica Liddell, Miet Warlop is the fourth artist to take up NTGent's challenge and formulate a History(ies) of Theater, as only she knows how. A staging of her own obsessions that lets us feel the flaws and ecstasies of our expectations, and invites us to form a community. A creation in the form of an encounter that weaves together present, past and future, anchored by a requiem written in 2005. An eternal, repetitive piece, which never really closes, and which the collective experience allows to transcend.
