MomA
Who are we to each other? Are we indebted to those who raised us?
Once upon a time, Sigrun was a surrogate mother to Makena. Now she runs a prominent theater, where Sigrun, whose career has stalled, hopes to stage her next play. But Makena has no recollection of giving her consent. From the unspoken to the implied, the roles are reversed and tension mounts between the two women. As Sigrun unveils her project, another question emerges: can one, in the name of art, expose the intimacy of one's loved ones? When a story is shared, whose right is it to tell it?
With MomA, directors Toril Goksøyr and Camilla Martens deliver a gripping family drama, the final part of their Livet ("life" in Norwegian) pentalogy. Each of the five pieces explores a key stage in life - from birth to death - through a blend of documentary theater, visual art and sound installation. For MomA, spectators are equipped with headphones, a device that abolishes all distance from the stage. Every breath, every silence becomes palpable, as close as possible to the characters' emotions. An unsettling sensory experience that questions, in a hollow way, the boundaries between art and life.
