Mauvais esprit
Mauvais esprit focuses on childhood fears and popular beliefs. It is performed in the actors' four native languages: Arabic, French, Lingala and Mandarin. French is the main language, and the show is surtitled. Four childhood friends meet in a house on the edge of a forest. After the day's friendly but complex reunion, the night awakens the unconscious, and each of them is confronted with their childhood terrors. Together, they try to understand and thwart what makes them tremble. The play draws its fantastic inspiration from a number of fairy tales, which we are having fun twisting and mixing to give them a new flavor and strangeness. On the one hand, we want to evoke without bravado the question of our terrors and anxieties, but we also want to celebrate friendship, that friendly foundation that reinvents our families, that softens and heals them.
