Les Souterraines

Add to my favorites

After an immersion in the world of the hospital (Entre ses mains presented in 2023), Julie Guichard tackles an altogether different, no less militant social issue: soil pollution and the impact of human activity on its environment. Based on real-life immersions in Brittany, Normandy and the Paris region, she takes a close look at the complex and often hidden realities of the people who live there: geologists, doctors, workers or bosses. A local council is planning to build a retirement home on top of a disused factory. But as the risks are proven to be long-term, the residents will already be buried by the time the effects are felt.

Although the subject matter is tough, Julie Guichard brings lightness to it with choreography, humor and her own intelligence, which meets here with the writing of Penda Diouf, one of today's hottest authors. While remaining rooted in the social fresco, it is through fiction that the show frees itself from the formal aspect of a documentary and that Julie Guichard's theater continues to enlighten us.
