La maison bouge

Add to my favorites

Excerpts from Home Movie by Suzanne Joubert

Four characters—a small, fragile slice of humanity—lost in the museum. There, they find a temporary refuge, navigate blindly, and talk as they walk. They tell us of a world that resembles our own and yet is utterly improbable, shaped by their imaginations. Kindred spirits to our own loneliness and fears, they challenge our worldview, bringing to the surface the disasters of our time—the tragedy and the absurdity of our human condition.
Suzanne Joubert’s text—witty and caustic, often cruel—resonates with the museum; it speaks of fragility, conservation, preservation, and insurmountable walls….
In pursuit of this “strange tribe,” we discover the museum through a break-in. We explore it in fragments, whether it remains in the background or takes center stage.
Mysterious guides orchestrate the audience’s journey, leading them to meet our characters who inhabit the museum day and night. These guides will be played by amateur actors, recruited on-site during the tour or drawn from the company’s workshops.
Because “shaking things up” and taking theater off the beaten path are part of Cie Mises en Scène’s DNA, this new production will (temporarily) take up residence in museums and other heritage sites.
