La Loi du marcheur takes its cue from Pierre-André Boutang and Dominique Rabourdin's 1992 documentary film Itinéraire d'un ciné-fils. In it, Régis Debray talks to Serge Daney, editor-in-chief of Cahiers du cinéma, journalist at Libération and founder of the magazine Trafic.
A Parisian born in 1944 in the 11ᵉ arrondissement from a modest background, Serge Daney recounts what"seeing films offered him of the world". He's a virtuoso passer, expressing himself clearly, forcefully, with a keen sense of formula. Alone on stage, Nicolas Bouchaud seizes on this "griot's" word to address the audience directly, backed by a "friendly" film that neither he nor Serge Daney have ever lost sight of: Howard Hawks' Rio Bravo. Integrated into the staging, the film offers multiple possibilities for play between stage and projection screen to pay homage to cinema and its power to change the course of our lives.
