La Finta Giardiniera
Behind the comic plot of La Finta Giardiniera lies a subtle portrait of human passions. Sandrina, a marquise disguised as a gardener, tries to escape her tumultuous past: she has been stabbed by her lover, Count Belfiore, and left for dead.
Reunited in the Podestat's mansion, the former lovers find themselves embroiled in a series of misunderstandings and cross-dressings, before everything unravels in a happy reconciliation. Aged just 18, Mozart composed La Finta Giardiniera in 1775 for the Munich Carnival. The young composer blends recitatives, arias and ensembles with finesse, and already reveals the humorous and humane outlook that characterizes his future masterpieces. This opera is performed by artists in residence at the Académie de l'Opéra national de Paris in Julie Delille's new staging.
