La Casa de la fuerza

The House of Strength is a place of contrasts. The little girl who crosses the stage in her little pink plane at the beginning sets the tone when she reads these few words: "No mountain, no forest, no desert will deliver us from the evil that others plot for us." Angélica Liddell's latest creation is a show in pink and black, where pink is also the color of mourning. Six women (first three, then three more) take to the stage to express the difficulty of being a woman when the relationship with others becomes one of power, daily humiliation and cruelty. The three women - or sisters - dream of leaving for Mexico. But there, violence is a horror on a grand scale. They've even adopted a word to describe the murders of women which, since the early 90s, have numbered in the hundreds in the city of Ciudad Juárez, in the state of Chihuahua, on the border with the United States: "feminicide". So when they drink, smoke, sing and dance, we can guess at their inner suffering. The mariachis disappear in favor of a cellist intoning Vivaldi's Cum dederit . Dance gives way to other physical practices that exhaust the body, convulse it, mark it, bleed it, literally and figuratively. These women tell their own stories, unmasked.
