Illusions

Add to my favorites

Illusions is a play by Russian author Ivan Viripaev. It brings together four narrators, two women, two men, who come to tell the audience the story of two octogenarian couples with edifying longevity of love. In the twilight of their lives, these characters undergo an intimate upheaval that shatters their certainties about love and the foundations on which their lives have been built. The play is made up of a succession of stories, funny or tragic, sometimes seemingly anecdotal, but always essential. These slivers of life portray characters who have lost their way, orphaned by their certainties and the stable, orderly world of childhood. Between affirmations, affabulations and contradictory versions, we find ourselves lost in a maze where the truth of feelings keeps slipping away.
